Introduction

Yamunanagar, alongwith its twin town Jagadhri, is a well developed industrial town off the Delhi-Chandigarh highway. The popular industrial hub of Yamunanagar District spanning over 1700 square kilometers came into existence on 1st November, 1989. It has 655 villages, 10 towns, 2 Sub-Divisions, 3 tehsils and 3 sub-tehsils. Before being named Yamunanagar it was known as Abdullapur. A large part of the district lies under the Shivalik foothills. Sugarcane, wheat and rice are its main crops. It is an important industrial town having metal utensil and plywood industries. Big industrial plants of Isgec Heavy Engineering Limited and Avantha are located here.
